GEAR – GENDER EQUALITY IN ACADEMIA AND RESEARCH

V vse bolj zapletenem in medsebojno povezanem svetu so prakse izobraževanja in usposabljanja STE(A)M pritegnile pozornost v visokem šolstvu (HE). Glede na to, da svet prehaja v četrto industrijsko revolucijo, se pričakuje, da bo povpraševanje po strokovnjakih na področju STEM v prihodnosti raslo.

Da bi obravnavali trenutna (s STEM povezana) neravnovesja med spoloma in intersekcijska neravnovesja v visokem šolstvu ter poklicnem iskanju na Zahodnem Balkanu, projekt GEAR predlaga okvir za spremembo sedanjega stanja s:

1. sooblikovanjem razvoja in izvajanja načrtov za enakost spolov na visokošolskih ustanovah ZB;
2. krepitvijo udeležbe žensk in deklet v študiju in karieri STE(A)M;
3. spodbujanjem podpore in sodelovanja žensk in deklet z manj priložnostmi v VO;
4. implementacijo nacionalnih in lokalnih vidikov enakosti spolov v strateških razvojnih okvirih, npr. strategije specializacije, inkluzije in strategije enakosti spolov;
5. skrbjo za potrebe najbolj ranljivih študentk prevladujočih etničnih skupin (tj. Romkinje).

In an increasingly complex and interconnected world, STE(A)M education and training practices have gained attention in Higher Education (HE). Given that the world is in its fourth industrial revolution, the demand for STEM experts and professionals is expected to grow in the future.

To address the current (STEM-related) gender and intersectional imbalances in the Western Balkans HE and career pursuit, the GEAR project proposes a framework for changing the present situation through:

1. co-designed development and implementation of gender equality plans at WB HEIs;
2. strengthening women’s and girls’ participation in STE(A)M studies and careers;
3. fostering support and participation of women and girls with fewer opportunities in HE;
4. implementation of national and local gender aspects in strategic developmental frameworks, e.g. specialization strategies, inclusion, and gender strategies;
5. Catering for the needs of the most vulnerable female students from predominant ethnic groups (i.e. Roma).

The professors from the Faculty of Education at the University of Maribor who are actively participating in the GEAR project are: Assoc. Prof. Maja Hmelak, Assoc. Prof. Tomaž Bratina, Asst. Prof. Nikolaja Golob, and Tch. Asst. Eva Kranjec.
